NED.ED

Size guide

Measure twice. Look like you didn’t have to.

Every NED.ED piece is made to measure, so this chart is a starting point, not a verdict. Take your measurements as below, then let us refine them with you.

How to measure

Use a soft tape measure and wear a fitted shirt or measure over light clothing. Stand naturally, keep the tape snug but not tight, and ask someone to help with the shoulder, back and inseam. The numbers on each mannequin match the steps and chart rows beside it.

Sample values. The chart figures are placeholders for layout and will be replaced with NED.ED’s approved measurements.

A mannequin with numbered tape measures at the chest (1), across the shoulders (2), down the arm (3), around the neck (4), around the waist (5) and around the hips (6).

Agbada, kaftans, jackets and tunics

Tops

Everything above the waist, plus the waist and hip measurements that shape how a tunic or jacket falls.

01Chest
Measure around the fullest part of the chest, under the arms and across the shoulder blades. Keep the tape level and breathe normally.
02Shoulder
Measure across the back from the edge of one shoulder bone to the other, following the natural curve.
03Sleeve
With the arm relaxed at your side, measure from the shoulder edge down to the wrist bone.
04Neck
Measure around the base of the neck where a collar would sit. Leave room for one finger under the tape.
05Waist
Measure around your natural waist, just above the navel. Keep the tape level and don’t pull your stomach in.
06Hip
Stand with feet together and measure around the fullest part of the seat.
Garment length
Measure from the highest point of the shoulder, next to the neck, down to where you want the garment to finish.

For suits, two-piece sets and every robe’s trousers

Trousers

Four measurements cover the fit and the length. Measure in bare feet, standing straight with your weight on both legs.

01Waist
Measure around where you like your trousers to sit, usually just below the navel. This can differ from your natural waist.
02Hip
Stand with feet together and measure around the fullest part of the seat.
03Inseam
Measure down the inside of the leg, from the crotch to the ankle bone. It’s easiest with a helper.
04Trouser length
Measure down the outside of the leg, from your trouser waist to the ankle bone, or to where you want the hem to finish.

By garment

Different pieces need different measurements. Here is what we’ll ask for each.

Agbada

  • Chest
  • Shoulder
  • Neck
  • Full length
  • Trouser waist and length
  • Cap size

The outer robe is cut for volume, so chest and shoulder guide the inner tunic. Tell us your height and how much drape you want, and we will balance the outer robe accordingly.

Kaftan

  • Chest
  • Shoulder
  • Neck
  • Sleeve
  • Kaftan length
  • Trouser waist and length

Kaftan length is personal. Measure from the shoulder to where you want it to finish, whether mid-calf or ankle.

Suits

  • Chest
  • Shoulder
  • Sleeve
  • Waist
  • Hip
  • Jacket length
  • Inseam

Tailoring depends on posture as much as size. A fitting, in person or guided by video, gives the best result.

Two Piece

  • Chest
  • Shoulder
  • Sleeve
  • Tunic length
  • Waist
  • Hip
  • Trouser length

Tell us how relaxed you like the fit. The same measurements can be cut close or easy.

Personal sizing

Not sure about a number? That’s what the consultation is for.

Send us your measurements, or let us guide you through them. We’ll make sure the fit is right before anything is cut.

What we’ll ask

  1. 01What do you want from this piece?
  2. 02What does simple mean to you?
  3. 03What does “leader” look like on you?
  4. 04How much attention is enough?
